Government Taxes and Spending

"The $3.67 trillion the government is planning to spend in fiscal year 2013 is your tax dollars. A budget is as much about spending as it is about raising revenue, and individuals like you fund the federal government through income taxes and payroll taxes. That means we're all stakeholders in how that money is spent."Read Article

What are you willing to do about this ?  The truth is in California, most people pay 51% of their income in taxes.  How confident are you, that after a few years, this percentage won't increase exponentially? Explain why.

  1. I think that we should be telling the government that we need to have a say in what our country spends our tax dollars on. I'm positive that if a president really wants to raise the taxes for us then there would be nothing we could do about it. If our taxes were raised then our country would be in major trouble if we didn't lower the prices on everyday goods that we need to buy.

  2. I feel confident that after a few years the percentage of how much we pay in taxes will increase beyond the 51%. If this percentage has increased over the years then why wouldn't it in the future. I believe that Americans should protest against this because it isn't fair that we have to pay more money than we can afford for the government to give away that money to something that might no even benefit on. I also believe that if multimillionaire corporate companies began paying their taxes then our economy and IRS would greatly benefit from it and maybe our taxes won't get raise as much later on in the future.

  3. To be honest I don't know what I can do about it. I believe that its not going to increase because we are already being taxed too much. because of this the government is creating taxation without representation, the reason we became independent Americans in the first place. Plus every year the population increases, increasing the amount of taxes to be paid, essentially they are collecting the same amount of money but at a higher rate.

  4. The fact that in California, hard working people pay 51 percent of their income in tax dollars is not okay. This percentage could increase in the next few years and this needs to be prevented. The american people work hard for their money and deserve to go home with a lot more than 50 percent of their money. As tax payers we need to make sure that our dollars are being put to use in the way that we need. We need to focus on our priorities and see exactly where all this money is going.

  5. America is a wealthy country that should provide equal benefits for all whom may need it most. However, tax payers are furious as taxes increase. The country has enough money to stabilize the economy, but can't quite do much about it due to the fact that billions of dollars are over seas. Why should american people sacrifice their hardworking tax money, that should benefit the country not other interests overseas.

  6. I believe that the tax rates will continue to increase and though I'm willing to pay reasonable taxes like so many others, the tax rates have risen while the wage rates stayed the same. This is most likely the reason why only half f the income taxes get paid since the price of living and taxes have gone higher and higher while the minimum wage has budged an inch. Because of this people will continue to pay less and less of income taxes since they are struggling to keep a roof over their head and food in their stomach. As citizens we are committed to keep our government up but when the government does not keep its people up then the nation will start to decline.

  7. I think that the government wont have a face to put out there and charge us more taxes than they already do .I feel confident that the government will see their flaws and make the correct decision about our tax money. I believe that at this point they have seen that citizens are not happy with some of the decisions they are making and next time the government wants to make a major decision like raising taxes they will consult the people and this time instead of just listening they are going to take our opinions in consideration, and put them to action.

  8. I believe that we all have the right to know where our taxes is going because like the article says,"As stakeholders, it is our right and our obligation to see that our tax dollars are spent in ways that reflect our priorities." All our taxes should be used for priorities that well benefit us the people. I do believe that our taxes will raise which i think is unfair because this brings back to the film called," We're not broke," and on this film it says how many organizations don't pay taxes. We all should know where all our money is going.

  9. I agree with Danielle, I am not sure what we can do about it, and if we can do something about it is the government going to do something about it. Taxes are increasing already and this is how economic stabilization works, but it’s not fair that good hard working people pay so much, yet big company's don't have to pay taxes and find ways to wiggle out. Government need to be more active and just on taxes including taxing big companies. Taxes are part of the American society and are what the founding father fought for, so that it would be fair and just. They wanted not have Taxation without representation, and I think they would be outraged that theirs people who find loop wholes so they would not pay taxes. I do not understand why government has a trillion debts if this country is wealthy, but government needs to see what they can do to stop borrowing money so taxes do not increase as much.

  10. I completely agree with Lauren! I do not believe that hard working Americans should be sent home with less than 50% of their paycheck. We should only be taxed for things that would benefit us as a society. Taxes have been raised before, so why wouldn't they raise again? I do believe that in the future, they will raise taxes even higher. However, like Kyle said, the price of food and everyday goods should be lowered if our taxes are raised. It is completely unfair.

  11. I think that taxes will continue to increase over the years and I think that is insane. We pay enough already and people have enough bills to pay and if 50% of their paycheck is taken, then wages should go up ass well. If taxes go up, it will have a great impact on economy. I'd be willing to pay taxes if they go towards good causes and benefits the people and everyone is taxed equally.
