Small Businesses Need Help

After reading the section on Business and Labor Policy, in the textbook explain what the positions were during this past election regarding the small business owner.  Refer to what each candidate said they would do with specifics. Do you agree that it would help generate jobs, help the tax burden of small businesses, and encourage entrepreneurs to start new businesses?  Explain your reasoning.

  1. Small Business is a big part of our society today. The American dream is that one day you can make a company of your own and make it huge like Apple or Microsoft. Its almost as if it is a glimpse of stardom. The American dream played a big role in our election this year. Both Presidents claimed that they would help out small businesses, but Romney wanted to give tax breaks to the big businesses as well. While Obama wanted them to pay 40% for taxes instead of 35%. He wanted to raise taxes for richer people. I believe that small businesses helps job growth because the more we have the spark to spend and entrepreneur for the glimpse of stardom we start to have more employees. More employees means more jobs.

Kajal and Marissa felt that this is a very helpful resource to small business owners. Unlike larger businesses, small businesses have little to no advice to succeed in there business. We feel that this will help generate jobs and help our economy. By small business reaching out and trying to start there business, we think that this would encourage entrepreneurs to start a business as well and there will be a lot more variety of businesses throughout America.

  3. President Obama wanted to create many new jobs. One of the ways he said he would do this is by having people create small businesses. Romney, however, wanted to have more big businesses that make a lot of money rather than small businesses. Personally, I think it is a good idea to encourage entrepreneurs to start small business. It teaches responsibility and encourages taking ownership. Owners of small businesses tend to feel a sense of accomplishment about what they're doing. When people feel accomplished, they tend to feel happier, so this could potentially lead to a rise in overall happiness. I can't see any reason small businesses would be bad. Creating more small businesses also creates more jobs because the people who started the business will need people to work with them.

    1. I agree with Rebekah's opinion. Small businesses are never really bad unless they are illegal jobs. Romney's want to make big businesses could make large sums of cash, but it'll ultimately lead to less jobs. I also completely agree with Obama's view on creating more jobs with small businesses. In my opinion small businesses are the backbone of America's economy. I am an entrepreneur as of the age of 13. With the help of BUILD I have learned to run and create a business. It gave me the sense of pride and joy to know that I can create a job. I feel like if all American's were encouraged to be entrepreneur's it would help our nation a lot.

After reading the section on Business and Labor policies I do think that it will help generate jobs. Small business help the economy and by regulating the larger businesses small business would expand.

  5. Barack Obama's view on Business and Labor Policy is a strong supporter of worker's rights. He believes they should be given the right to bargain collectively and strike if the need arises. He would see to it that striking workers are not completely expelled from work. Obama intended to raise the minimum wages index it to inflationary levels and thereby raise the Earned Income Tax Credit. While Mitt Romey said that the American worker could be richer by $9000 a year by opening up the market to American goods and services. The workers can sell the products they manufacture around the world thus raking in more income. He protest against a labor bill known as The Employee Free Choice Act that would make it easier for unions to organize describing it as a dangerous legislation saying that it would have a negative impact on the nation's ability to compete globally and would also dampen the scope of new businesses. I think that each have some strong points but I feel that Obama could handle it better than Romney could have.

  6. British goods were imported in the 1800's and this drastically affected the U.S industries. This releates to the topics that Governor Romney discussed in the election. Romney stated that we shoud stop foreign industries from operating in the U.S as they were affecting the production of U.S industries. Not to mention, congress has paseed laws that regulate certain economic activities. We honestly disagree with these conditions for the most part. It is possible to generate more jobs with disabling foreign industries. But this would most likely take too long for it to actually happen. We are currently in a tax burden that will not be lifted untill the next 8 years. It seems like the focus tends to be more on the middle class.

  7. Small businesses are a very important part of our country's economy. They employ a lot of people, fill many product demands, and give people the opportunity to become successful. The two most recent presidential candidates had very different opinions about small businesses. Obama wanted to help small businesses, and help them grow. Romney, on the other hand, wanted to have more large businesses that dominate the market. Obama's idea is more helpful to many of the people in the country, and is meant to benefit that individual person, as opposed to making more profits. I agree that overall, more small businesses are beneficial to people. It creates more jobs, and people tend to enjoy those jobs more. It does also encourage entrepreneurs. They have more opportunity to be successful with their ideas.

we agree with kajal and marissa because we think that the reason this country is running is because of small businesses and helping them rise above. We think big corporations can take advantage of the government in some way. Like Obama said, that the we should raise the taxes for rich people only and not for the middle class. Small businesses help the economy of the United States and it helps the consumers. The help that the government provides to small businesses helps them flourish. We think that by regulating the larger businesses then small businesses would have the opportunity to expand.

  9. I really didn't pay attention to Romney's view on business but at one point, he bent Obama's words about small business. He made Obama seemed like he was insulting small business. But anyway, the things that Obama has done so far for small business is tat has cut taxes for them 18 times, health care reform created tax credits to help business with the cost of insurance. We know that most of the workers have insurance paid by their company/ business, and it's very expensive. ASo by trying to share the burden with small business, they will have more money to hire more workers (generate jobs) or just to increase the workers' salary.

So now is about Romney. He exaggerated the truth when he said 2/3 of the jobs are created by small business. In reality, it only creates 26% of the jobs (he needs to do math). “Those businesses that are in the last 3% of businesses employ half, half, of all the people who work in small business. Those are the businesses that employ one-quarter of all the workers in America,” Romney said during the televised debate. If so, then all the millionaires and billionaires are small business? He doesn't know what he's talking about.

  10. Our government is based on the economic power of spending. Spending money definitely plays a vital role to fund government programs. Small business are one of the many key steps to help our economy. As for apple, amazon, and other big companies help boost our economy at a greater pace. Small businesses helps with taxes and to distribute income to every worker. Without these small businesses the government would be corrupt and with more people on the streets. It takes brave people to step up and start a business of any kind because it may not be successful though on he other hand it gives jobs to many. In my opinion taxation is a key role to our government we need to do in order to fund our own programs. Romney in my opinion was making a huge mistake by trying to cut free taxes from big corporates that would have affected our economy greatly.
