  1. I have asked my parents what to do in each scenario I can remember. I realize it could happen right now. I think I am ready for it to happen at any time. If not, then I will keep asking to learn. I carry snacks to school every day. I do not usually carry water, though. I wait until the lunch period and during that time, I put a dollar in the vending machine. When I heard about the earthquake in Haiti, I was surprised to hear how many people died because the Loma Prieta earthquake was ten times as powerful, and yet the 1989 World Series resumed.

  2. Haitian people are going thru alot right now after the debastating earthquake which was 7.o.. Haiti is so small that we never thought an earthquake was going to hit it. But it happened and now haiti residents are starving. The US is helping and hopefully more people are going to be ready to help.

  4. honestly I think that provably only half of the population in america are prepare for a disaster, and the main reason is that we don't think its going to happen to us.In my family we are not really preapared for a catastrophy.

  5. I think it is hard to tell weather you are ready or not because during that time we can not do anything that we had planned like during that you might not find some safer place to be at. The only thing we can do is be prepared for that and don't afraid from the rumors. I feel sorry for the people in Haiti because Haiti is one of the poorest country in America and they need help for everything including rebuilding stuff and hospitals. I heard they don't have wireless communication or internet right now so they are starting new wireless communication booth for the people. They really need help over there.

  6. I never thought of I would experience this kind of situation. If there is something happen, may be I would lost my mind. I normally would carry some snack, and something else. In China, two years ago, there were a huge earthquake, nearly 100,000 died, and the totally economically lose is about 5 billion yuan (it's about 700 million dollars). Since Chinese government send troops, they could get at least some help from that. So it is really pathetic, for people were there. Compare to us, to sit in the class study, it's really make me a reflection.

If something like this happened in my area i would not be prepared. I don't carry snacks and extra water which would be a good idea since we are close to a fault line. We were shocked by this because nothing has really happened lately and it randomly occurred. My family always has lots of bottled water and we know where the strongest place in our house is.

We all had our families prepare for any circumstance by packing water, non perishable food, extra clothes both for warm weather and for cool weather, sturdy shoes, and a first aid kit in a safe but easy access place so we can be prepared for whatever comes our way. We also know to be prepared at school. We know that we must protect the back of our necks and crawl under our desks so we can survive from falling debris.

  9. My family is prepared for this in the bay area because my family has a certain spot we would go in our house so we would be safe, and if that were to happen here, what happened in haiti, i would need to be more prepared by putting extra snacks and water in my locker, and backpack. Also, to store extra things somewhere in case our house collapsed.

Natural disasters are unpredictable and people must be prepared at all times with an emergency plan. We predict that about 1/4 of America have a plan prepared with their family in case of an emergency. Recently, an earthquake of 7.0 struck Haiti and left more than half the population homeless and in danger. In case something like this happened to America, most of our families have a plan to execute to keep us safe. My family prepared a meeting spot by the mailbox in case of a fire or after an earthquake. We also have an emergency kit with flashlights, dry food, and clothing. Mandy's family planned their meeting spot at the local elementary school by her house. All in all, I think it's really important to have a plan with your family in case of an emergency like the earthquake in Haiti.

The earthquake in Haiti was horrible. Thousands of people lost their homes and love ones. Everyone was affected by the earthquake. If something like that happened in the Bay Area, my family and I would not be prepared for it. I don't bring extra food and snacks to school besides my lunch. I do not know what I would do if an earthquake like that happened where i lived. I cant even imagine what they are feeling right now. It is just too horrible to even think about.

If there was an earthquake at school, we would be prepared because of the drills that we practiced in school. The earthquake that happened in Haiti was really sad, and a lot of people were effected, and their lives are changed forever. An earthquake could happen anytime where we live, and it is really important to know what to do.

If we ever had a massive earthquake in the bay area as they did in Haiti, we would not be prepared. Emergency items like extra water and snacks, aren't on our top priority when heading towards school everyday. I had no words for the disaster that struck Haiti earlier last week. The story of what happened in Haiti was unexpected and shocking. Many lives were lost in that disaster and many are still not accountable. Honestly, if anything like this happened to the bay area, none of us would be prepared to handle the aftermath.

Some people are prepared if this happens here. They have things such as water, clothes, food, blankets, and other needs stored incase of an emergency like an earthquake at home. Some students are prepared if an earthquake happens at school too. Other people are much less prepared thinking that this couldn't happen in their hometown. We think everybody should be prepared incase of a disaster. We suggest that people who aren't prepared need to get supplies such as canned food, large water containers, food, and store them in a place safe from a disaster. The disaster could strike at any time so it is important to be prepared.

Our group realizes that an earthquake could happen at any time or any place, and we are actually overdue for a big earthquake. It is hard to tell if people can be prepared or not for an earthquake, because you might not be in a safe place and it will be hard to find somewhere where you are out of danger. Many people lost their lives in the Haitian earthquake, and the country has become devastated and it is one of the poorest countries. We do not think many people are ready for a really big earthquake.

  17. I feel that it is very important to be ready for an earthquake. People do not rezaalize that people of the worl can not do anything to stop it because it is a natural disaster. Being prepared for the earthquake is really the only thing epople can do. At first I really was not worriued about an earthquake because they would either rarley happen, and if they did you would not feel it normally. But, now that the earthis changing and more and more natual disaters are happening, I feel that my family should really be prepared for the worse. Now knowing that there was an earthquake in Haiti,I feel that it would be best if we were all prepared even if an earthquake happens in thirty years from now. We must all be prepared for the un exspected.

  19. This is a very dramatic time for the Haitian people. I can't even explain how sorry I am to those who lost their home and love one. We can enjoy life right now but we never know what next tomorrow or the next day. Haitian people didn't know this will happen to them we all don't know that. 50,000 people is a lot of people compare to the Island that I come from. I am not ready for this at all. But it my decision to make rather or not I'm ready or not. If it come tonight their is nothing we can do about it. I do sometime carry extra snack incase I don't feel like eating any food from the cafeteria, but very often. My Grandma right now a then, ever since she saw what happen in Haiti she always remind us to don't waste food because some people especially in Haiti people are hungry children are dieing from starvation.

  20. The scale of devastation caused by the earthquake in Haiti is horrifying. 1 million people are displaced from their homes and need shelter, food, sanitation, health care and income. Nearly 200,000 are injured and in need of care, including thousands of amputees who will need long-term physical therapy. Children and pregnant women are also at serious risk without immediate help.
We have already collected around 50,000 dead bodies," Paul Antoine Bien-Aime, Haiti's interior minister told Reuters. "We anticipate there will be between 100,000 and 200,000 dead in total, although we will never know the exact number."
Around 40,000 bodies have been buried in mass graves.
Although doctors, rescue teams and supplies had been flying into the Haitian capital, Port au Prince, a series of bottlenecks meant aid was not getting to those who needed it most.

  21. the Haiti earthquake was horrible about 50,000 people had died from the earthquake, and left so many people homeless. If this was to happen were I live I think it would be a mess and would be full of chaos.I carry snacks and occasionally bring a bottle of water to school and am prepared if something like that had happen to me.

  22. Since the tragedy that struck Haiti my family has made us realize that it could happen here, especially because we live near the coast. My family has not done anything yet to become prepared for a disaster that could happen here like an earthquake, or flood. however it is something that we need to, because it could happen here at any time.

  24. The Haiti earthquake was one of the largest earthquakes, with a measurment of 7.0. Even though there have been other earthquakes, Haiti has had the highest death rates. According to BBC News, that's because of the population density, and where the center of the earthquake was. Where we live, and earthquake could happen at any time, and it's really important to be prepared. At school, we practiced drills so we would know what to do. It's really important to be prepared, because an earthquake could happen at any time.

  25. The earthquake that struck Haiti was 7.0, so it was a really powerful earthquake that distroyed a lot of homes and buildings. It will take a long time to recover from the earthqake like this one but if everyone helped out we can help Haiti out a get deal. Now the number of people that died in Haiti has went up so the more who help can really make a difference in Haiti. The earthquake made me think that I have to prepare if something like this would happen were I lived.

  26. The incident in Haiti was terrible! I couldn't even imagine how it would feel like if I where to live there. If an earthquake like that happened in the Bay Area my family an I would not be prepared because we don't hold extra food and we really don't hold can food! The people in Haiti will forever be in m prayers and I know this event has changed their lives FOREVER!

  27. There's no way i would survive on that incident. Even though we always have a drill practice, but still, you'll never know when is going to happen. If its time, its time you know.

The earthquake in Haiti was very devastating for many reasons. A major reason is that they weren't prepared. The structures in Haiti were very poorly built. Very few of the buildings had any real support, and any building near the earthquake zone would have easily fallen. The capital building, possibly the strongest building in Haiti, was even damaged and parts collapsed. But it fared better than most. Buildings that collapsed were a big part of the large death toll in Haiti.

We are ready for an earthquake if it happens at school. We all carry water and some sort of snack everyday. At our homes we are semi-prepared. Cases of water are stored close by and snack food is available. We know the strongest part of our houses and feel ready for the next big earthquake.

  30. Danielle 3, you sound have a great plan. But are you carrying snakes everyday? What if the things are happening right now, at the moment you are reading this. How much you prepare for it? Do you have any specific place or somewhere to go to hide?

    ReplyDelete
  31. michelle3,haley3,dominic3 I think you cant prepare everything. If it happens at school first you would think only ''am I gonna live?''you are not gonna think ''what Im gonna eat?''. It can happens at anywhere. You would not be prepare at everywhere. Think about you are at theater. Do you carry any snack or water when you are gonig to theater? I think no. Nobody carry anything when they are gonig to anywhere.
