44th President Is Sworn In

Consider President Obama's Inaugural Address. How is his desire, to "prepare the nation for a new age," difficult? Do you agree that we need to embrace a, "new era of peace," as well as, "embody the spirit of service", in our personal lives? Describe the call to accountability for the Nation in what the President calls, "a new age of responsibility." What can you do in your world to ensure a better tomorrow?

  1. I strongly agree with what Obama has had to say. Obama says, "President Obama has made history by the barriers he has broken, and I believe he will continue to do so by instituting the change he represents for our nation.” What we as the people can do yo ensure a better tomorrow is to get our economy back on track. once again restore a value system that respects and honors fiscal responsibility, and we all have something to give to our country and have an obligation to do that to return it to its greatness."

  2. In a way, Obama has a long road ahead of him. There is still hate and discrimination lurking in our Country. The new age is a little more understanding than the old age, that was very racist, and did not give equal opportunities to all. We need to learn to live and love each other as equals. We are all the same inside, why not treat each other the same for who we are in the outside. World peace is something that we should all strive for. If we all try to be a little bit nicer to everyone, it would be a small step in our effort to achieving world peace. Everyone needs to begin to take ownership of their own actions. You can't begin to improve yourself as a better person, if you don't begin to admit what you have done wrong. You need to own up to that. I am going to try to improve myself as a better person and strive for a new beginning in terms of the output I give to life.

  3. President Obama is calling for a major overhaul of the country. It's clear that the old system is not working, and I think that a lot of people are looking for a new start with this presidency. When he calls for us to "embody a spirit of service" I think he is calling on us as Americans to come together to rebuild the country, like volunteering. I think that we have been so focused on oursevles that we forget we are one people, one nation. In my own life I want to volunteer more and just try and the best person I can be.

  4. I agree with Zita. I believe President Obama's main point through all of his campaigning was that he was all about change. He wanted to alter the negative choices that have been made for our country and turn our economy and society around 180 degrees. Obama is about new ways and new ideas. He is addressing "new age" responsabilities such as "saving our earth" and protecting of future and is trying to incorporate all of the nation. I feel like President Obama wants to bring the nation together and have all of us Americans work together, as once, instead of separate sections.
To insure a better tomorrow in my world, I can be considerate of the choices that I make will affect my future and the future of this planet, and I can work with others more and try to give back more to the community.

  5. In Obama's Inaugural Address, he talks about change and "how to prepare the nation for a new age". This can be very difficult considering that we just ended an eight year presidency with the worst president this nation has ever had. We need to embrace the new era of peace, as well as, embody the spirit of service. If we follow Obama's plan, then he can turn out to be a great president and fix this nation's economy. Ever since the war, products like gas and grocery prices have gone straight up. When Obama mentions a "new age of responsibility" he's trying to call on us as individuals and help rebuild our nation. So, it's our responsibility to do the work and it's his job to make the conclusion successful. As an individual myself, to better this country I should do more volunteer work to help out others in need. I hope the next four years are better than the eight we had with George W. Bush.

  6. Barrack Obama wants change and he wants change to happen right now. The old system that was with Bush did not work out and we as citizens have to contribute to this new change. We are responsibile for everything we do. Even putting your garbage in the trash would be change. Any change is good at this point and time. We got hammered down with the economy and didn't expect it. Now we are in a hole and we can't just sit on the couch and do nothing. What I can do to ensure a better tomorrow is just do what I have to do. There is nothing really more to it. Don't be lazy is my number one modo since kindergarden. We have to rebuild the economy and make living in America the best place in the world.

"On this day, we gather because we have chosen hope over fear, unity of purpose over conflict and discord."- Barrack Obama

We have to do this as a nation and every individual counts. This is a new beginning and hopefully we can overcome the economic troubles.

We witnessed the inauguration of our 44th President in Barack Obama and he wants to prepare the nation of a new age. He wants all of us to do our part in bringing back the U.S from this economic collapse, as well as creating more job opportunities for people. President Obama believes we are all responsible for this collapse and that we should all do our part in restoring it. He wants all of us to forget about the Bush administration and focus to the future.Me and Kyle believe that we can do our part in helping ensure a better tomorrow by volunteering and making better decisions on our part. This is our country we are all responsible for it.

  8. Kyle and Tino I agree with these generally, but what specifically can YOU do to show responsibility toward the nation? Vince, can't post until you correct spelling.

  10. I like the way Obama is talking about change. I hope that everyone will co-operate with him to help change America. Our economy down and everyone needs to help boost the economy again.
It's our job to be responsible and start helping to change because one man can't do everything by himself. Obama wants to focus on the future and change the wrong things the Bush Administration did. Obama already lifted restrictions on abortion fundings, lifted Bush's funding plan and is pushing on a recovery plan. "America must play its role in ushering in a new era of peace." Obama said that we have gone through many eras where there is separation between religion, race, and gender, and it is time to start its role in the era of peace.

  11. His desire for “new age” is different because some people don’t want to change, and view change as a radical socialist thing. By saying “new” it’s as though he is saying he wants in with the new and out with the old, fast. From TV to TV, everyone is glued to the movements of this new president, because they are fascinating with what he might do next. Already he is working on shutting down Guantanamo Bay immediately, and is spreading word of having students going virtual just like our class. I agree with his stance on a “new era of peace” in the world we live in. He already has stated that he is going to take an open approach to the President of Iran, which is good, because Bush stated the country as part of the Axis of Evil. His policy of “new age of responsibility” calls upon Americans to take responsibility for their actions and for the actions of the country as a whole. We need to nationalize ourselves once again, after the elections and become a unitary population. To ensure a better tomorrow Americans need to take responsibility in a failing economy, and embrace this “new era”. This “new era” is what may help our lives in the end, and bring the change we need. I, as a citizen of the US, should be open to the change although it may be a little staggering at first and advocate the change to others who are closed minded about it.

  12. I like Obama's idea of change. We need it. I feel like Washington is getting curupted by old men who worry way to much about their money. Obama is young and vibrant. Hopefully he follows through with his ideas, and after his term is up we are a better country. I also like how he said "for those who seek to advance their aims by inducing terror and slaughtering innocents, we say to you now that our spirit is stronger and cannot be broken; you cannot outlast us, and we will defeat you." That shows that we are strong, and although we are willing to work together we will not tolerate terrorism.

  13. President Obama has a lot of work ahead of him. It;s going to be tough challenge to fix the economy. He has a lot of people who are against him and waiting for him to fall. We need to all come together and change our ways of using credit for everything. What I can do is be considerate of my choices that can affect others. I can also give back to the community.

  14. I agree with Lupita. This is still alot of racial hate and discrimination in our country. He is going to face many challenges as the first black president of the United States. World peace should definetily be one of our goals as a country. I as well as many other people are seeking a new start. I strongly believe that Obama will point us in that direction. I also feel like he wants to bring us all together and have us work as one. Like Justin said, we need to rebuild our nation. I can help by making wise and smarter choices.

  15. President Obama is the symbol of change to our nation and beyond our country. He brings hope and inspiration to everyone. He makes me want to be a better person and make efforts to help and be active. I think "to prepare the nation for a new age" is going to be difficult because not everyone is a believer or follower of Obama, there are also critics. I also agree that "a new age of responsibility" is called for. Americans need to wake up and do their part to help. I do believe the majority of America will do their part in trying to help with the change because as Obama said we are all in this together and he needs our help. Obama has a long four years ahead of him and I think history couldn't have been made in a better time. He is a breath of fresh air that is long overdue.

  16. I agree a lot with Zita and Lupita. Obama does have a long road ahead of him, the next four years leading this country of ours. It is obvious that the old way we tried to get to work, just is not working for us. People are expecting President Obama to make a change for the better. I feel that if we all work and help to make our country a better country, we can make a big difference. Honestly though, not everyone will help out. Not everyone likes the views and stands he takes on some issues. I just hope we can make it through another 4 years with a new president.

  17. I defiantly agree that we should prepare the nation for a new age, but I think that our new president is going to bite off more then he can chew. People don’t like change and our new president is asking for a lot of it. It’s a fact all politicians lie or say what they want done but don’t get to it. Obama has said a lot more then most politicians with lots of change and differences. He says he is for the schools and raising money, but he does this by taxing. One of his changes that I am very against is that he wants to tax veterinarian. I have a horse and horse’s exams even a simple check up can cost way too much. Yes, I believe that schools are very important but if you think about it all the school accounts are frozen right not. Also I do not agree with using important money on baby sitting the kids that there minds wont let them live a real life. There should be a private school or place for them to go and the money that is spent on them should go to better places. I agree that a new era from war and into peace is really important but how our president is going about it will be interesting to watch. It will be very interesting to see in four years if he gets re-elected or runs for his second term, only time will tell.

  18. We think that Obama being sworn in is huge step for our country in the right direction. Though, we believe that not one person or one political party can bring forth the change our country needs. We think that the new spirit that President Obama has brought to our nation is a wonderful thing, and we agree with his call to accountability and responsibility. Everyone needs begin to work together and help this country out this crisis. We believe that if everyone takes responsible actions and make better choices that these small steps can better help the country. Only time will tell if Obama if is the right President. Only his actions will prove his promises were not just to get elected, but to actually help our country. He definitely shows dedication and determination to make a difference and change things around, but we need more time before we can safely say that Obama was the right choice.

  19. This is great all this stuff Obama is spouting is making me wish that George H. Bush was pres. but alas there is nothing that can be done as of yet. All I can do is sit waiting to raise the flag when Obama crosses a line that sould not be crossed. All he talks about is change and there is nothing that scares me more than this mans vaugeness. What change? Why is it so important for us to embrace it? I don't get it, but theres more to it than just not understanding, there are rights gauranted to me as a U.S. citizen that he wants to remove! Thats isn't right, no pun intended.

  20. Barack Obama's desire to "prepare the nation for a new age" will be quite challenging considering all of the challenges we have against us. The failing economy, health care, two wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, bailouts for banks and the auto industry, the swine flu outbreak in recent weeks, and many more. Obama promised hope and change, and hopefully over the next four years we will see that. I do agree that we need to embrace a, "new era of peace," as well as, "embody the spirit of service", in our personal lives because we need to have perseverance. Despite our failures in the past and present, especially with the Bush administration, we need to still believe that we can make America a stronger nation and hard work will lead to the results we desire. In his inauguration address, President Obama talks about "a new age of responsibility". He said "Our economy is badly weakened, a consequence of greed and irresponsibility on the part of some but also our collective failure to make hard choices and prepare the nation for a new age." We all need to take responsibility to help get our nation through these tough times. We Americans have done it before and we can certainly do it again.
