  1. Our representatives for California are two women named Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein. One topic I was very interested in, from Barbara Boxer, was that she called for major infrastructure investment to create jobs, and help boost economic recovery. She believes these challenges represent real opportunities, not just to rebuild America’s infrastructure, but also to jump start our economy. By addressing these challenges in the right way, we can create jobs, help American families, and address the needs of communities across the country. If Boxer pulled this off our economy is bound to go up. One topic i was very interested in with Dianne Feinstein was her issue with the prison in Guantanamo Bay. She has made efforts to try and shut down that facility and she's been trying for a year. She believes that the decision to create a detention facility at Guantanamo under a separate and unequal system of justice was made by this Administration. I partially agree with her, because there are really dangerous convicts in that facility and i wouldn't be smart to put them in another prison that they could potentially escape from do to there time and experience at Guantanamo Bay.

  2. Barbara Boxer is a pro-environmentalist. She successfully led the 2003 battle to block oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. She also voted again in 2005 to blok drilling. She introduced the NOPA in 2005 which stregnthens ocean governance, protects and restores marine wildlife and habitats, improves fisheries management, and addresses ocean pollution. As of January 2007, she wanted to reduce energy consumption. I like how she tries to help the environment. I think if everyone took one step no matter how much or little of a cause to help the environment, it would be good.

  3. The person that represents me in the House of Representatives is Jackie Speier. The two Senators for California are Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein. One of the issues that Jackie Speier has worked on is marriage equality. During her time in the California Assembly and Senate, she wrote and supported many bills that sought to redress inequities regarding LGTB (lesbian, gay, transsexual, bisexual) Californians and their families. Ms. Speier has also supported a joint resolution urging Congress to enact the Microbicide Development Act, which increased funding research and development of microbicides, a promising HIV prevention technology.
One of the issues that Senator Barbra Boxer has been working on is taking action to ensure the Troubled Asset Recovery Program sufficiently assists cities and counties impacted by the financial crisis. This issue is important to California because local Californian governments could lose an estimated $250 million.

  4. Dianna Feinstein is the senior U.S. Senator from California, having held office as a senator since 1992. She is a member of the Democratic Party. Senator Feinstein holds a number of "firsts"; she was the first female President of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, San Francisco's first female mayor, the first woman to serve in the Senate from California, one of two female Jewish senators (both of whom represent California), the first woman to serve on the Senate Judiciary Committee, and the first woman to chair the Senate Rules Committee. She is very supportive over everything like NO on 8. Which gives equal freedom and liberties for all. No matter there sexual orientation or there choice of life style.

Feinstein supported the Iraq war resolution in the vote of October 11, 2002; she has claimed that she was misled by President Bush on the reasons for going to war. However, former UN Weapons Inspector in Iraq Scott Ritter has stated that Feinstein in summer 2002 acknowledged to him that she knew the Bush administration had not provided any convincing intelligence to back up its claims about the Iraqi weapons of mass destruction. The American people have made their voices clear that there must be an exit strategy for Iraq. Yet this President continues to stubbornly adhere to more of the same.

  5. The two senators of California are Barbara Boxer and Diane Feinstein. The representative who represents me and my views on congress is Jackie Speir. An interesting issue that Jackie Speier worked on this year is having equality in everything especially marriage. She claim that marriage equality is the most profound issue of our generaton and that we have to respect that. She wrote and supported many bills for marriage equality. Other bils she wrote are a constitutional amendment to allow counties to extend the exemption from property tax reassessment and she provided death benefits. “Marriage equality is perhaps the most profound civil rights issue of our generation” - Jackie Speier

An issue that Barbara Boxer worked is for major infrastructure investment to create jobs, and boost the economy. She called for major investments from infrastructure so citizens would have jobs. In the crisis that the United States is in right now, it is better to act quickly.

"I believe these challenges represent real opportunities, not just to rebuild America’s infrastructure, but also to jumpstart our economy. By addressing these challenges in the right way, we can create jobs, help American families, and address the needs of communities across the country"- Barbara Boxer

Another issue she touched on is she wrote a letter to Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson to take action to ensure that investments are properly run in California and to protect California from an investment crisis.

  6. Solid source work Mike, good job. Sydney1: steer clear of Wikipedia when chcking out senatorial facts, only because it changes often. Stick to .gov websites, since these are maintained with upto date information, and accuracy is so important.

  7. The two senators of California are Barbara Boxer and Dianne Fienstien. There are 53 representatives for the State of California, Michael Thompson, Wally Herger, Dan Lungren, John Doolittle, Doris Matsui, Lynn Woolsley, George Miller Nancy Pelosi, and Barbara Lee just to name a few. She has set up the excellence in education awards to recognize and raise awareness of teachers, parents, businesses, and organizations that are working to make positive changes in education.(In 2002, her website does not have recent issues.) She did this to help children do better in school, by making them feel rewarded for their hard work and good grades. She also set up (MACSA) The Mexican American Community Services Agency which provided an afterschool program and other serivses to the Santa Clara County. It offers daycare, career couseling, tutoring, recreation activities, and tutoring, it is an innovative approach to gang intervention and academic initiatives. Michael Thompson helped the environment, he made much of northern California protected by law. His law protected 273,000 acres of wilderness in Del Norte, Humboldt, Mendocino, Lake and Napa Countries. It set aside 21 miles of Scenic River and approximately 51,000 acres as a Recreation Management Area for off-highway vehicles and mountain bikes. Mike Thompson spent 17 years in public office working to make health care affordable for all Americans, especially in rural areas like the 1st Congressional District.

  8. A woman named Jackie Speier, who is a Democrat represents the 94070 zip code. She believes that “Marriage equality is perhaps the most profound civil rights issue of our generation”, which I believe as well. Marriage equality should be allowed, with the passing of Prop 8, rights were taken away. She sought out to “redress inequities regarding LGTB Californians and families”. She directly supports my views because I believe that anyone should have the right to marry, no matter what sexual preference. The two senators for California are Barbara Boxer and Diane Feinstein. “Boxer is a strong advocate for stem-cell research”, which I believe is a very good thing. Stem cell research could potentially help people with diseases such as Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s and spinal cord injuries, diabetes. Other representatives strongly disapprove of stemcell rearch and candidate McCain originally looked down upon the research, but withdrew his opinion when he realized it does indeed help many people. With her as an advocate perhaps it will push through and not be a negative in the eye of conservative representatives. Boxer has also Boxer “been a leader in promoting the use of technology in the classroom,” which directly benefits out school, and more importantly our government class. With technology in the classroom it will benefit us in the long run and prepare us more for the college atmosphere.

  9. The Senators for California are Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein. The Representative is Jackie Speier.
Feinstein believes in addressing the cost of higher education. This issue is a big concern for me, because I’m going into college next year and I don’t want to have a huge debt hanging over me when I leave.
One of the issues that Senator Boxer is involved is in the environment. “Senator Boxer authored the California Wild Heritage Wilderness Act, which would protect 2.5 million areas of public lands in 81 different areas across the state as well as free-flowing portions of 22 rivers.”

  10. We have two Senators in the state of California who are; Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein.

    -Earlier this year, in my Biotech 4 class we were asked to send a letter to one of our state senators and discuss in the letter global and environmental issuses conserning those of the depletion of rainforrests and global warming. I wrote to Senator Boxer and was suprized when i recieved a return letter addressing my concerns. She said that;
"As Chairman od the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, I am working on legislation to decrease harmful greenhouse gas emissions and fight global warming. I have also introduced bills to remove harmful chemicals from drinking water and strenghthen drinking water standards. In addition, one of my main priorities remains cleaning up toxic waste sites. I am also continuing my efforts to preserve wildlife habitat and public lands for future generations to enjoy." She was glad that there were young people who are concerned with their environment and she plans to stay ivoloved with preserving our earth.

-Senator Feinstein is working with both Democrats and Republicans to find common-sense solutions to the problems facing California and the Nation. Some of her achievements include:
California Desert Protection: Protecting more than 7 million acres of pristine California desert -- the largest such designation in the history of the continental United States.

Calfed: Authorizing $395 million for a balanced program to increase California's water supply, reliability and quality and help restore sensitive water ecosystems.

Healthy Forests: Reducing the risk of catastrophic fire in our forests by expediting the thinning of hazardous fuels and providing the first legal protection for old-growth forests in our nation's history.

Lake Tahoe Restoration - Preserving and restoring this treasured natural resource by authorizing $300 million in federal funds over 10 years to match investments by the States of California and Nevada and local authorities.

It is very important to me that our senators are working on preserving our environment and making the earth a better place for all of us to live. It shows me that they care about all of our futurees and that they want the best for their people.

  11. Our Californian senators are Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein. I agree with Kyle that Jackie Speier of the House of Representatives represents me. I also strongly agree with marriage equality and she has worked hard to earn the LGTB community equal rights. Speier is also a strong supporter of getting out of Iraq and passing health insurance. She also strongly believes on keeping governments promises to veterans of war. She is also interested in establishing a lower national speed limit to help the issue of the skyrocketing price of gasoline being faced by the American people. The lower speed limit will directly help fuel efficiency and environmental protection. I think Speier is looking to protect our future generations and leave her office better then it was when she entered.

  12. Our Californian senators are Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein. Barbara Boxer is a pro-environmentalist, which Brandon and I agree with. We think the enviroment plays a big role in our economy today; it makes the world a better place. Barbara Boxer has a great interest in making more jobs available for people which is necessary in our society today to make it stronger. “Boxer is a strong advocate for stem-cell research”, we agree with Ariel about this because it can cure a lot of diseases and help people who are sick. Barbara Boxer is a good person and brings a lot of good ideas to our society.

I agree with this because our environment is becoming worse by the second and I think we should definitely start acting on it.

  14. The city of San Carlos is located in Assembly District 21. The member of the State Assembly representing District 21 in Sacramento is Mr. Ira Ruskin. I met him and Joe Simitian when we visited the Capitol in 8th grade. The city of Belmont is located in another district, Assembly District 19. The member of the state assembly representing District 21 in Sacramento is Mr. Gene Mullin. The two Senators representing California in our nation’s capital are Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein. Two important issues that Ira Ruskin has been working on are the cost of college textbooks and special education. As a senior, college is going to be expensive and it will be nice to not have to pay as much for books. And also it’s a good idea to have a better education for those kids with special needs, as they have many more obstacles to overcome. Dianne Feinstein has been recently fighting for fuel efficient and cleaner cars, which I think is a very important issue. I even have a car with a smaller engine, a Honda Fit, to reduce carbon emissions from my car.
